The artist:
I am a Haitian-born and Brooklyn-based multimedia artist. My practice revolves around the interplay of illustration and ceramics to explore storytelling, ritual, and material exploration. In my two-dimensional work, I draw inspiration from surrealism and Haitian myths and folklore to construct a visual narrative that maintains my connection to my native country. Achieved through analog and digital methods, my illustrations embrace a vibrant color palette, naive forms, and religious symbolism. I employ these elements as a way of engaging with themes of distant homeland, nostalgia, and dreamscape. Transitioning to ceramics, my focus shifts to crafting ritual vessels and sound sculptures. Ritual is a timeless tool that has helped me confront the inevitability of change. By shaping clay into ceremonial pieces, I seek to forge rites that honor traditional Haitian spiritual beliefs. My practice has evolved into a spiritual and healing journey, allowing me to navigate complex emotions tied to displacement, familial loss, and transformation. My work is an attempt to resist—maybe even counteract—assimilation. It is an archive of childhood memories and traditions of Haitian storytelling.
