The work:

I am inspired to create a lamp that combines my passion for weaving and ceramics. These lamps continue my ceramic series, “Funeral Arts Vessels.” Using the “Hand Rolling Coils” technique, I love watching the vessel build up, with each coil representing a snake. Historically, serpents and snakes symbolize fertility and a creative life force. As snakes shed their skin, they become symbols of rebirth, transformation, immortality, and healing. The ouroboros, in particular, represents eternity and the continual renewal of life. As my body heals from cancer, I feel I am growing stronger and undergoing my own renewal journey. I’ve incorporated avocado pits as symbols of new growth and the seeds of life. The red light in the lamp represents my radiation treatment, using infrared rays to attack and shrink the DNA of cancer cells. Finally, the weaving on the vessels symbolizes my strengthening, as I weave a new lease on life
