Magic & Happiness

A show by the Kids of Artshack

We are proud to announce Magic & Happiness, our first ever group show by artists ages 5-14.

The work in the show was produced under unprecedented circumstances by kids and teens who attended pods in the past year, during the pandemic. It is work that, like Giorgio Agamben proposes in his text of the same name, embodies the secret solidarity between magic and happiness.

The nature of clay allows us to, by accumulating gestures and matter, give body to something we might not know what it is yet. The pieces in this show (masks, animals, vases, but also inform colorful masses) seem to capture the essence of the thing they resemble to.

If, like Agamben says, magic is about finding a thing’s secret name, and with it, being able to summon it, these works certainly feel like is a call to happiness.

We will be hosting a socially-distant reception on Thursday, July 29th, 5-7pm.
