The work:
Basalt Columns is based on columnar basalt formations found across coastal iceland and ireland. Various folklore describes these volcanic columns as being creations of giants and thrones of witches. The stoneware columns are modular and can be arranged as desired. The tallest column is fitted with a light, and the second tallest is fitted with drainage for use as a planter.
Dimensions:
16"× 14"× 14"
The artist:
Macdonald is interested in the irony of manmade objects that appear to be organic, and his work is highly influenced by the natural world. In a transient modern culture, Macdonald aims to create objects that are enduring.
